Course Objectives: To introduce the students to the fundamental skills in backpacking: hiking, equipment selection & handling, menu planning & cooking, orienteering, safety/first aid, recognizing harmful plants & animals & learning about environmental perservation.

Course Content: Demonstration of techniques & practicing the same.

Method of Presentation: Some lectures & lots of hands on experience on our campus.

Method of Evaluation: Attendance & participation, planning a hypothetical backpacking trip & overnight campout. This is a pass/non-pass evaluation. You must get 70% of the available points to pass. Attendance at the overnight is manditory to pass the class.
