Course Objectives: -To create art using digital imaging tools. -To gain an understanding of the context of computer imaging as it relates to contemporary art practice. -To achieve a level of comfort with the tools and techniques needed to create digital artwork. -To experiment with new ways to connect digital technology to your own art making practice.

Course Content: Art 350 is an introduction to creating, manipulating, outputting graphic images. Through readings, lectures, discussions, critiques, writing, and art making, we will explore what makes the computer and digital media unique in the expression of artistic ideas. We will be utilizing high-resolution flatbed scanners, digital cameras, large format inkjet printers, graphics tablets, and the software program Adobe Photoshop CS4. While this is a studio course in which we will learn software and techniques, there will be a strong focus on the content of the digital art works created in class.

Method of Presentation: Lectures, discussions, demonstrations

Method of Evaluation: Grade will be determined by 5 projects, in- and out-of-class exercises, and class participation. Projects will be graded on: Originality of concept, Execution of concept, Technical proficiency, Overall presentation and craftsmanship, Effort and Experimentation
