Research Assistant

The Ohio State University is a top research university. Faculty at The Ohio State University at Mansfield are highly involved with research, scholarship, and the creation of new knowledge.  You can play an important role in this research by providing assistance to faculty members in a variety of fields. Sometimes independent study (693) or research (699) course credits can be given, depending on the nature of the assistance. Sometimes students are paid in exchange for their help on a research project.  Occasionally students volunteer for this activity simply for the experience.  The details will need to be discussed with the professor that you end up helping. 

    Some of the roles that students have played in OSU-M research include:

     

  • Searching for books and articles
    •  
  • Data coding and input
    •  
  • Interacting with human subjects in experiments and studies
    •  
  • Filming moving objects
    •  
  • Developing markers for local flora
    •  
  • Determining the occupations of people who are independently wealthy
    •  
  • Researching the structure of the Hispanic upper class in the United States
    •  
  • Distributing a survey to see how many US public high schools addressed same-sex desire in their Language Arts curricula.
    •  
  • Serving as participant-observers in an ethnographic study of the Writing Center
