Framework Plan Project Update 1/2013
The Ohio State University at Mansfield and North Central State College have been engaged in a process to develop the Mansfield Campus Framework Plan. This joint endeavor began in April 2012 and is focused on the future development of the Mansfield Campus. The plan is being done in the context of the framework planning process, a holistic approach of integrating programmatic, physical and financial planning. A Framework Plan is a structure that guides decision making and change over time, ensuring the academic missions of each institution drive the physical environment and ensuring decisions incrementally build towards a larger vision for the campus.
Since April, the project team, consisting of representatives from both institutions, has been working through the planning process to develop a draft plan. Via monthly meetings, the team has identified the campus issues and opportunities; reviewed and analyzed data on enrollment, physical facilities and the environment, programmatic development, financial trends, and space use; assessed and weighed campus physical needs; developed a set of guiding principles and action strategies; and developed a physical context and scenario to transform the campus over the next 50 years to meet the physical needs of both institutions.
During the planning process, the team has engaged with officials of the community, conducted wayfinding focus groups with students, and met several times with the boards of both institutions to discuss issues and opportunities, key findings, and emerging physical concepts. In the coming weeks a draft plan will be posted online for review by the campus and local community. The draft plan is intended to share the plan ideas and obtain feedback. Town hall meetings (dates and times to be determined) for the campus and local community will be held to present the draft plan and gather input before a final plan is developed and considered by The Ohio State University at Mansfield Board and the North Central State College Board of Trustees.
