Highly ranked both nationally and in the state of Ohio, the Department of Teaching and Learning offers innovative programs for those seeking a license to begin a teaching career, those who seek to add an endorsement to their license or to deepen their research-based knowledge, and those seeking to become a researcher. Through the combination of a rigorous curriculum and a supportive social environment students become scholars who investigate issues of learning and teaching in classrooms, schools, families, and other communities.
Our B.S.Ed. program prepares teachers to work in a diversity of settings—urban, rural, as well as suburban—in either early (grades Pre-K-3) or middle (grades 4-8) childhood education. The School also offers a Master of Arts (M.A.) program with many areas of study. The M.A. program prepares students for advanced work at the Ph.D. level, develops their research skills, and enhances their teaching. In addition, teachers can work toward the requirements of the K-12 Reading Endorsement, the Middle Childhood Generalist, the P-6 Mathematics Endorsement, or the 4/5 Endorsement.
