Students Making A Realistic Transition is a transition and pre-orientation program for incoming students of color. The goal of SMART Scholars is to help prepare students for their first year of college at OSU Mansfield, while also assisting them in making a smooth transition from high school to college. Students participating in SMART Scholars will have the opportunity meet various university faculty, staff and administrators. Students will attend workshops that will assist them to adjusting to the college environment. Most importantly, students will have an opportunity bond with other incoming students. During the academic year, various services, programs and workshops will be provided for students, to support their continued develop throughout their first year at The Ohio State University at Mansfield.
First Generation Connection
The First Generation Connection is a one year transition and mentoring program for incoming first generation students at OSU Mansfield. The goal of the First Generation Cohort is to assist first generation college students in navigating to the collegiate environment, by providing services that will intentionally, cultivate and support their academic attainment and personal growth, through the promotion of academic success, leadership development, and student engagement. Students will be paired with upperclassmen, as well as faculty and staff members, who may also be first generation college students. Students will meet regularly with their mentors, attend events sponsored by the Office of Multicultural Affairs and other campus events, and attend study tables on a weekly basis.
